Scuffletown Garden
Renovation - Hospitality - Richmond, VA
Scuffletown Garden took over the location of a Richmond Institution, the Strawberry Street Cafe. The building was well known and well loved in the community, which challenged us to design a space so different from the former environment that it could stand above the shadow of the SSC’s legacy.
By reconfiguring the seating layout, dividing the bar and dining areas, and creating inviting nooks for different size groups, we completely reinterpreted the room. By deploying warm wood slat walls, subtle curves, wall textures, new lighting, plant walls, and a semi-open view to the kitchen, we made a space that was at once inviting and elevated. The design reflected the owner’s focus on the beauty and richness of locally grown food, and welcomed everyone back to a new neighborhood favorite.
